As I previously posted, I wanted to bring yall our 3 top picks from our first PTO Expo event we attended a couple of weeks ago. We haven’t dealt with any of these companies previously but they piqued our interest the most. Here is our second top pick:)
This pick is not a fundraiser but an educational enrichment.
The Science Alliance is a travelling Science program out of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. We spoke to the creator/owner of the SA, Bill Bosworth and his lovely wife. Mr. Bosworth was a high school teacher in Lake Geneva for many years. He said he didn’t feel like the classroom was enough. He wanted to reach more kids and get them excited about Science. He felt the answer was a more hands on approach and that is what they have been doing since the 90’s.
The brochure and company website are geared more toward K-8. However, when I spoke to them, I told them our Middle School and High School are in the same building and some of our grades share the same teachers. We inquired about including our upper grades as well and they said they absolutely could! Some of their assemblies that they do are for Chemistry, Physics, Environmental, and Entomology. (There are topics as well, so make sure you check them out.) Mrs. Bosworth said he would gladly speak to our Science teachers and get an idea of what they are looking for and would create a show for their needs. Their shows are very interactive with the students. Some shows ask for as many as 70 volunteers! These volunteers get to help with Science experiments that they perform during the show. Other shows as for 20-30 volunteers.
Another service they offer is doing a Science Workshop. This would not be for the whole school. He pitched this to us as an extra add-on or even a reward for students. Workshops would host from 50-60 students. How you pick these students is up to the teachers. Highest grade in a class? Entered the Science Fair? Needs a little extra lift in spirit? It lasts for about an hour. The workshop would also include hands on experiments that relate to whatever the need of the Science department.
Being in the PTC, PTO, PTA, etc is not all about fundraising. THESE are the kind of things we fundraise for. Educational Enrichments. Nothing gives me a bigger thrill than to be able to provide out of the funds we work so hard to raise – and we felt this was exactly what we want to give back to the students. We want them to be inspired and excited over school.
We’ve been on Spring Break this week, but on Monday, I will be presenting this idea to our Science Department Head and Administration. I’m very excited about it to say the least:)
Did this Top Pick excite you? Let us know what your thoughts are in the comment box!
I’ll be posting our last Top Pick in a future post. It’s a fun one:)
Speak soon!
take care,
