Hello, my name is Kathryn. It’s very nice to meet you!
First of all, I am a people person. I am from the south and boy do my roots and heritage run deep. I love to help. I love to feed. I love to visit and get to know people. I. Love. People.
I grew up in a town where no one locked their doors. We basically would walk in the back door hollering “yooo hoo!!”. I mean if someone came to the front door and knocked… well, you knew for certain, it was somebody you didn’t know. My parents were keen volunteers when it came to our community and children. I could go on and on about their contributions but that would not do justice for how much they have given back. I am proud to say, I believe that my love for helping comes directly from them:)
My journey started when our oldest son, Jamie, was in second grade. The first time I got involved with our school’s PTC was when I took Christmas treats in for his class and noticed that there were parents setting up for what looked like a Christmas party. I stuck my head in the door and asked if they needed help setting up…. and that was it. I was hooked.
Up until that moment, we had lived in our town for about 8 yrs and I found it hard to make friends. However, once I began volunteering it became much easier.
Over these last 10 years, I have organized hundreds of events ranging from small to quite large. With the help of MANY volunteers, some of our achievements include funding of supplies and educational equipment for the classrooms. We’ve supplied sick families with meals and support. Formed Angel Trees for the less fortunate in our community. We’ve given children in need basic items from coats to fully stocked backpacks. The elementary playground now has equipment for the school’s physically disabled children to enjoy outside – several years in the making and I am SUPER proud of this one:) We’ve also funded educational field trips for our students and done many other great things!
Jamie is now in his Senior year of high school, and I have not stopped. It’s something I love doing. Sometimes I think it’s a sickness. If I see something that I think needs to be done, I’m going in… both feet. I’ve been very lucky over the years because I have developed many supportive friendships. These friendships have been huge in helping me get these events done.
One of my biggest events over the years has been our Breakfast with Santa, in December. After attending one year, I decided to help out and the next year and took over the role as coordinator. My committee and I made a lot of great and exciting changes. It just got bigger and better every year. I’m very proud of this one.
I have worn many hats over the years most at the same time! Some of my roles include social committee volunteer, social committee chairperson, PTC secretary, PTC president, head room mom and soccer board parent representative. I have headed community projects, as well. I loved putting events together.
As of this year, all 3 of our children have finally left the elementary school and are under one roof at the middle school/high school. I’ve taken on the role of our middle son, Matthew’s, high school swimming, team mom/assistant coach. I’m having a great time with this one!
I can not say it’s been easy to always find parent volunteers. My husband and children are usually always involved, one way or another. And the older our kids get, the bigger the tasks they can take on. They enjoy it, especially if it involves teachers and staff:) Also, I’ve had to get creative in my ways of recruiting volunteers. Over the years, volunteers will change. They come and go as their children grow and become involved in different activities. And, as y’all probably know, the older kids get, it becomes harder and harder to focus on one more thing.
I hope you will find everything you need in this website to make you a more confident and help you reduce your stress levels. I can help each of you on your journey to find your way and make event organization easy for you. It is A LOT of work, but it’s super rewarding and it’s a lot of fun. The end result is worth it. Trust!
